It's not a big secret that one of the most effective ways to create error free and low cost software applications is to use previously created projects as a prototype. If you are making something from scratch, you obviously need to spend much more time than if you already had it made in the first place. Also, when you're creating something for the first time, you will not be able to avoid all the mistakes and errors. To track and eliminate the errors, the developer should run intensive testing and debugging, but that requires time as well. When you already have similar applications done for somebody else, it is much easier to rebuild the existing system to fit the customer's needs, than to build it from the beginning.

Using a prototype doesn't mean that it should be an application designed for a similar business and for the same purpose. We are talking about algorithms, programming codes and the vision of the structure, which can be used in a new application. If you have reusable codes wrapped as modules, you can aggregate them into the system. Obviously, if the developer doesn't need to spend time to work out the structure of the application, doesn't need to write all the programming codes from scratch, and instead he could use a library of ready-to-use modules and samples of well-designed structures, it dramatically reduces the time and the cost of development. Moreover, it guarantees that there will be no errors, which could appear in the process of writing the codes.
